The idea of Hill & Hill Design was developed by sisters Jane and Mary over a couple of bottles of wine one November evening in 2008. At the time Mary was working as a designer for a bespoke furniture company and Jane was designing the interiors of some of the great houses in Derbyshire with hand-sewn curtains and fine antiques. As the recession started to bite, clients tightened their budgets. Jane and Mary decided to join forces and concentrate on supplying care home furniture and curtains to the healthcare market instead.
With 2 of their brothers owning nursing homes that required care home furniture and curtains they became their first clients. creativity and imagination were key in creating the boutique hotel look on an extremely tight budget and at the time limited fire retardant fabric choice. Fortunately, times have changed since 2008 and there is now such a vast choice of flame retardant fabrics to choose from. Furniture manufacturers are constantly developing designs that fit in with the care home furniture criteria yet look stylish at the same time. Designing interior schemes for care homes has definitely been a challenge over the years, but we have been rewarded with plenty of happy residents and many repeat clients.
